What is Ascendant in Astrology?Meaning & Symbolism
Pronunciation:
The Ascendant, or Rising sign, is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment of your birth. It represents your outward persona, first impressions, and the 'lens' through which you view the world.
The Symbolism of Ascendant
In technical astrology, the Ascendant marks the intersection of the eastern horizon and the ecliptic at the time of birth, serving as the cusp of the 1st House. While the Sun represents your core identity and the Moon your emotional depth, the Ascendant is your 'earthly vehicle.' It governs your physical appearance, your style of dress, and your immediate, instinctive reactions to new environments. Because the zodiac rotates through all twelve signs every 24 hours (changing roughly every two hours), the Ascendant is the most personalized point in your chart, necessitating an exact birth time for calculation.
